The Cultural Arts Committee is pleased to announce that all PTA-sponsored field trips have been scheduled for the school year. The purpose of the Cultural Arts Committee is to arrange opportunities for our children to be exposed to cultural happenings via field trip experiences.
In October the pre-K and Kindergarten classes ventured to the Center for Puppetry Arts where they enjoyed a bilingual production of “La Cucarachita Martina” followed by a puppet-making workshop. In November the 4th graders will learn about 20th Century Masters of art as they head to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta to experience “Picasso to Warhol: 20th Century Masters”. The 5th graders will learn about Shakespearean theater as they visit the Atlanta Shakespeare Theater in December to see Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”. Alos in December our 2nd graders will witness the Atlanta Ballet’s timeless production of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite at the Fabulous Fox Theater.
In February 2012, the 3rd grade classes will head to Symphony Hall to hear the Atlanta Symphony’s production uniquely designed for young children. And finally, the 1st graders will enjoy the Alliance Theater’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” in March.
More information about these events will be forthcoming as event dates approach. Teacher’s will be sending home permission forms; we encourage you to support this effort to expose our children to the wonderful world of the arts. For more information, please feel free to contact committee chair, Larry Donroe-Wells, at donroe-wells@att.net.

Come and get a jump start on your holiday purchases at the Livsey Scholastic Book Fair! There will be a large selection of books for all ages, as well as other treasures, that await you on the stage in the Cafeteria. The Book Fair hours are before school from 7:30-8 am, and after school from 2:30-3 pm. The book fair is also open during the Thanksgiving Luncheons on the 17th and 18th from10:30 -1:00.
The book fair is an excellent way to get some good reading material and help the PTA raise money at the same time. A portion of the proceeds from the fair go directly to buying books to add to our school library. We also participate in the One for Books campaign- Parents or students donate loose change, and the money collected will go directly to purchasing a book for EACH class room. Scholastic will also match one book per dollar raised to a charity for kids in need. More info on the One for Books campaign will come home soon.
We hope to see you at the Fair!
